Riverside Beat Priority Update

Good morning,

ASB at Castle Gardens and surrounding areas

The beat team, along with our DMU officer, PC Jess, have continued to patrol Castle Gardens to ensure there is a presence of the police as much as possible. As much as we want the public to enjoy the open space without feeling like we’re about, we want to ensure people are using it for it’s purpose. This includes working with businesses nearby as well as holding beat engagements at the location to engage with our community positively. Our patrols are intended to create reassurance and support where necessary. 

As I write this update to you, PC Callum is completing a stop search on a member of public in Castle Gardens after acting suspiciously and believed to be in possession and using drugs. We’re aware drugs have been an issue in Castle Gardens previously, and we aim to help prevent this from occurring and ruining the experience for all park users.

We have also linked in with the local council who have ownership of the park to identify any emerging issues or threats, and to devise plans to tackle them. This includes maintaining communications about the risks of not having the park locked at night, additional CCTV and lighting in blind spots. Our aim is to make the Riverside beat as safe and welcoming as possible.
